First-Ever Health Center Workforce Well-being Survey Data Now Available

HRSA released findings from our Health Center Workforce Well-being Survey in a national dashboard on the HRSA Data Warehouse. Visit the site to explore the data – you can filter the data by job category, region, and more. Be sure to read the “About this dashboard” guide.

Nearly 700 health centers – more than 52,000 health center staff – participated in the survey in late 2022 and earlier this year. Respondents represent a wide range of roles and locations. Learn more on our Health Center Workforce Well-being webpage.

Key findings show that health center staff are highly motivated, although they deal with challenges. For example:

  • 99% of respondents are connected to their organization’s mission and find their work meaningful.
  • 87% of respondents are satisfied with their job and would recommend their health center as a “good place to work.”
  • 89% of respondents generally agree they have the resources they need to do their job well, with almost a quarter (23%) “strongly” agreeing they have these resources.
  • Areas where health centers can improve the most are compensation and benefits, burnout, and workload, although average responses were still generally favorable in these areas.

We will use this data to create programs and strategies to enhance workforce well-being, including providing all health centers with data-driven technical assistance (TA). We will also work with our partners, like Primary Care Associations (PCAs) and National Training and Technical Assistance Partners (NTTAPs), at national and regional levels.

THANK YOU to the health centers that participated – we truly value your efforts!

If you have questions about the survey or the dashboard, submit them via the BPHC Contact Form (General/Other HRSA > Other Topics).

Policy Did You Know

Policy Tip: Required and Additional Services

If a health center provides its own transportation service or directly pays for transportation that enables patients to access health center services, it should record that in Column I in Form 5A: Services Provided (PDF). For example, if the health center operates a patient transport vehicle, purchases bus tokens/vouchers, or arranges/pays for taxis, these should be entered in Column I. Learn how to accurately document patient transportation services in the other columns in Form 5A in the Health Center Program Compliance FAQs
